As the world continues to change, the ability to spend more time at home has increased. More and more people are beginning to value remote work from home, a more efficient work-life balance, and an overall healthier lifestyle. Because of this, there has been a major trend and home gym phenomenon that continues to grow, proving it’s here to stay.

Home gyms create a very efficient, flexible, and private workout experience. Despite the #1 complaint and most common limiting belief, you really don’t need that much space to get a great workout! The best way to make the most out of the space you have is to invest in proper space-saving fitness equipment.

Are you tired of experiencing a lack of motivation when you see a messy pile of your workout equipment in the corner? Or do you dread the mini-workout it takes just to set up your workout gear? Now you can jump right into your workout with more organized and functional space-saving equipment. The more inspired you feel to work out, the more likely you will reach your workout goals. Get inspired by making the most out of your small space or home gym.

We’ve organized the list below to help you prioritize the items that should be considered first. Your barbell and squat rack are generally the foundation of your gym because the rack is where you’ll spend most of your time. The type of rack you choose is an essential part of starting your gym and it’s crucial to ensure you select a rack that doesn't take up too much unnecessary space. Additionally, you will need a barbell in order to actually be able to use your rack. Therefore, the following recommendations are in order of importance to enable you to start training as soon (and with as little space) as possible!

Space-Saving Barbell

The Shorty Bar: Nope, barbells aren’t just for Olympic lifters and pro bodybuilders. Barbells are a great way to create an extra challenge because they allow you to add more weight as you continue to grow stronger. If your space is limited, this unique Shorty Bar will be perfect for you! The Get RX’d Shorty bar is a popular option because of its convenient size and handle length - you can still rack it in a squat rack rather than having to leave it on the floor. Although the sleeves are shorter than those of a standard barbell, the sleeves provide plenty of space for adding heavy weight. The total length of this barbell is 74" whereas a standard barbell measures 86". Those 12 inches of saved space make it much easier to maneuver a barbell around your gym without worrying about hitting your walls or knocking things over. Now you can do all your lifts in a compact space!

Space-Saving Power Racks

Wall-Mount Builder Folding Rack: Whether you're a seasoned pro or new to the whole fitness equipment thing, there's a rack made just for you! The Wall-Mount Folding Builder Rack is one of the most popular racks because it saves so much space. Minimal effort to set up and breakdown is required; you can easily pull the locking pins to remove the pull-up bar and swing the two metal sides in to close. (Make sure you replace the pins back in so it remains stored and closed). This rack is also compatible with spotter arms if you’re looking for safety or just plan to add pieces over time.

Builder Slim Rack 2.0: If minimal effort still sounds like too much work when it comes to setting up your equipment, don't worry because here comes the Builder Slim Rack! With a one time setup, there will be no recurring set up or breakdown. This particular rack is different in that it is much closer to the wall. This new and improved version has larger J-Cups to create more space for your plates and make it easier to re-rack your barbell. With the pull-up bar extended and at an angle, you're not too close to the wall when performing pull-ups. This works great in your garage because when you take the J-Cups off, the uprights are only 6” from the wall. Now your car will fit underneath, eliminating any worries that your vehicle will get damaged. (Keep in mind that the J-Cups extend farther than standard J-Cups, creating interference if spotter arms are used).

Hanger Z Squat Rack and Alpha Pull-Up Bar System: Prepare to feel the burn! The Hanger Z Squat Rack is a patented product designed by Zeph Littleton, who is somewhat of a local hero in our home state of Texas. As a competitive athlete, coach, and veteran, Littleton is no stranger to getting the most usage out of a compact space. The Hanger Z Squat Rack hangs from any existing pull-up bar you have in order to perform as a squat rack. This solution takes up zero floor space and can be removed quickly from the pull-up bar when not in use. If you don't already have a pull-up bar, we recommend pairing it with out our Alpha HD Pull-Up Bar System to enhance your workouts. Once you install the pull-up bar system at a height where your parked car won't be affected, you can then attach the hanger squat rack to it and easily remove it when you’re done working out.

Heavy Duty 2-Piece Squat Rack: Working out in a small space? This also pairs well with the Alpha HD Pull-Up Bar System. These independent squat stands take up minimal space and are very easy to store by stacking or pushing them together, unlike typical squat racks which you can't separate for storage.

4' Builder Rig Lean: Working out at home or in your garage? Give your workout the boost it needs! The Builder Rig Lean is the ultimate rack that can fit your space and budget. It is similar to the Builder Slim Rack, yet taller, a little further from the wall, and more stable. The pull-up bar extends out so you're further away from the wall. Most standard rigs are either four feet or six feet off the wall. This rig is extremely popular because it is one of the few that is only two feet in depth. Unlike the Slim Rack which only anchors to the wall, the Builder Rig Lean can be anchored to the wall and also mounted to the floor, making it extremely stable. You can even customize with different accessories and attachments without worrying what will fit in in regards to the closeness of the wall. For example, you could get two more legs, two more uprights, and would then have a freestanding rack. You would not be able to do that with the Slim Rack or the Folding Rack. Some of our most popular accessories include the Builder Landmine, Builder Dip Horn, Double Wall Ball Target, and more!. Overall this is great if you're tall, lift heavy, need to save space, but also might expand your space in the future. It’s a “must have“ foundational space saving piece!

Space-Saving Benches

Competition Econ Flat Bench and Competition Heavy Flat Bench: Prefer more support? The Get RX’d Competition Flat Benches have a long pad with no gap in the middle. Similar to the FIDAB-2, their design creates the stability needed to store this bench vertically in your space. They also come equipped with wheels which enable you to move around with ease. Another great plus is that these particular benches were designed to comply with IPF competition regulation. The benches are available in Econ and Heavy versions with 3 different back pads to choose from.

Space-Saving Storage

Total Storage Rack: No more discouraging piles of gear in the corner! Organize all your fitness gear with this compact wall-mount storage rack. Mounting to the wall ensures that you save a ton of floor space. This extremely functional, heavy duty rack allows you to hang up to two barbells with UMHW on the barbell hooks to protect the coating and knurling on your bars. Hang your weightlifting belts, wrist straps, gloves, resistance bands, power bands, jump ropes, battle ropes, and more. With two slots on the top, you can even store medicine balls or slam balls. Get creative, you can hang it all!

Vertical Plate Tree: Tight on space? Vertical storage items are the proven way to go! This handy Vertical Plate Tree comes equipped with wheels so you can effortlessly roll your equipment away to store when you finish your workout. Although it’s nice and slim, it’s also extremely sturdy, functional, and spacious. This was designed to be able to store up to four different types of barbells, including odd shaped specialty bars which usually take up way too much room such as the Hex Bar. There are six plate sleeves, each spaced far enough apart to store bumper plates on each sleeve. Eliminate the frustration of how to store your barbells and weights!

4' Builder Storage System and 6' Builder Storage System: If organization excites you, feast your eyes on this versatile freestanding storage system. The Builder storage system comes complete with two legs and 4 shelves. You can choose up to four separate tiers or levels per rack. We offer three different types of shelves of your choice to make up your storage system: a bumper plate/med ball shelf, a kettlebell shelf, and a dumbbell shelf. The bumper plate/med ball shelf is an extremely versatile shelf as it is able to hold bumper plates, wall balls, medicine balls, or slam balls. The kettlebell shelf is essentially a flat shelf for storing kettlebells, ab mats, jump ropes, or a number of other items that can be put onto a flat surface. These shelves are designed to hold any amount of weight you put on it.

Here are the main ways our Builder Storage System can help you save space:

  • Extend your Builder rig or Builder rack with a Builder Storage System add-on
  • The most common storage systems are standalone, free-standing units with 2 uprights and up to 4 shelves per rack. This gives you a dedicated, freestanding storage system for all of your accessories and helps clean up the clutter.
  • Our storage shelves can also be inserted into our power racks and pull-up rig sections. Rather than having a dedicated freestanding unit for storage, you could combine your storage needs directly into your power rack, eliminating the need for storage system uprights.

As we know space is a premium inside your gym; we designed our storage system uprights, power rack uprights, and pull-up rig uprights to be multi-functional. For our storage system uprights, you can attach our landmines, double bar holder, or plate sleeves for further functionality and storage. The landmine attachment allows you to use the storage system as a functional training area as well. The double bar holder gives you the ability to store up to 2 barbells per upright. And, the plate sleeves allow for even more plates (such as change plates), bumper plates, jump ropes, resistance bands, weightlifting belts, and more to be hung on the outside of the storage system as well.

Space-Saving Sled

Xebex Speed Sled: If you want an item that doesn't take up any space, look no further than the Xebex Speed Sled! It might look simple, however, it provides a surprisingly effective conditioning workout. This nylon sled can be used with different types of weights including kettlebells and plates. Because it's not made of the typical bulky metal, this sled folds up and stores anywhere with ease!
